MAJORS BASEBALL

Open to 5th grade ten year olds, eleven and twelve year olds. Evaluations (tryouts) are required to be eligible for this division and placement is subject to draft selection. Teams are formed by manager draft the day of the evaluations. Somerset Hills highest division.  It is competitive, standings are maintained, and the season culminates in playoffs. The batting line-up consists of all players at the game regardless if they are currently in an on-field position or not. Official Little League Rules of Play are followed, with a few exceptions. See SHLL Majors Local Rules for more information.  

Uniforms -     SHLL provides: team hat, jersey, pants, belt and socks. Parents should provide: baseball glove, bat, bat bag, helmet, and cleats.

Practice -   Starts mid/late-March to the beginning of April depending on the weather and fields. Teams are encouraged to have 2 weekday practices and 1 weekend practice.

Games -    Begin April 11th  and go through mid-June. Typically there is 1 6pm weeknight and 1 Saturday game per week, but could be more depending on the schedule.  Games are played at Kiwanis Majors Field or River Road Field #3. 

 

MINORS BASEBALL

Open to nine year olds and 4th grade ten year olds.  (Eight year olds will be considered, but placement is subject to coach’s evaluation, space availability and draft selection). Tryouts are recommended for all, and required for eight year olds that wish to be considered for placement. Teams are formed by manager draft from a pool of available players. The Minor draft is held following weekend of the Majors draft. This Division is competitive, standings are maintained, and the season culminates in playoffs. The batting line-up consists of all players at the game regardless if they are currently in an on-field position or not. Players are encouraged to play all positions if they so choose. Official Little League Rules of Play are followed, with a few exceptions. See SHLL Minors local Rules for more information.

Instructional AA Baseball

Open to Seven and Eight year olds. (Six year olds will be considered if they have completed a year of Instructional A. The parent must request consideration and the player will be evaluated for Instructional AA.) Instructional AA maintains instructional focus and encourages kids to start pitching during games. Teams are formed by committee, taking into account skill levels and player age. Official Little League Rules of Play (used at the Majors and Minor AAA levels) are substantially modified to facilitate the games. Most games are played at Claremont Field. 

Uniforms -     SHLL provides: team hat, jersey, pants, and socks. Parents should provide: baseball glove, bat, helmet, and cleats.

Instructional A Baseball

Open to Six and Seven year olds (eight year olds by parental request). Six year olds must have completed one year of T-Ball. No tryouts, no division standings. Coach pitch, reinforces T-Ball skills and adds on. Tees are not used (unless necessary). Games are played at Lower Polo.

Uniforms -     SHLL provides: team hat, jersey, pants, and socks. Parents should provide: baseball glove, bat, helmet, and cleats.

T-Ball

Open to Four and Five year olds (six by parental request). The objective of the SHLL T-Ball program is to teach baseball skills and an understanding of the game to beginning players in an environment that promotes an appreciation of good sportsmanship and fair play. The program is both instructional and fun, and competition is minimized. Safety is the highest priority. The league is non-competitive. Game scores and league standings are not kept.  All team members present play each inning.

No tryouts, no division standings, batting off a Tee. Games are played at Kiwanis T-ball field and possible fields in Bedminster.

Uniforms -     SHLL provides: team hat, jersey, pants, and socks. Parents should provide: baseball glove, bat, and helmet. Cleats are not required.
